Home Again...Amazing Things

After 4 days in the hospital Liam was discharged. He's still sick but is tollerating his feeds again and is no longer in respitory distress. This last hospital stay was unlike all others. Usually Liam leaves the hospital a little further behind developmentally. This time, he learned new things. He was so out going with everyone. He threw his arms out and said "Up Up" to a ER nurse until she picked him up. He was so happy about the response in getting what he asked for he continued this. From that point on Liam asked everyone to pick him up. When they wouldnt or they had to leave his room he would put his head down and look up at them with big sad puppy eyes. It melted everyones hearts. He got so excited after the first time someone picked him up when asked that after he was sat back down he started laughing and clapping. That was Liams very first time clapping his hands. We've been working on it for 9 months now. Liam also conned a RT to play with him by rolling his ball toward her. She rolled it back and he continued to do the same. Again a first for Liam. Liam's next move was very brave! He twisted his body, grabbed the crib rail, put his leg under him and tried to stand up like Brightstart has been showing him. I had to grab him and not let him ofcourse. It took a few minutes to get him to try again where I could safely hold him. With alittle help he stood, holding onto me. Liam also had his very first wagon ride at the hospital. He's so active now that sitting in the room no longer interest him. Hes want to go go go, so we did some walking. Liam is also starting to talk alot more. He jabber alot but every now and then he throws in sentences on us. When I told him he was stinky and needed a diaper change, he said "I smell dirty" and help his diaper. When the RT said something to him he said "I dont like that". Liam is so full of suprises. God is doing amazing things with Liam right now. Today I sat him in his high chair here at home with Gerber puffs and a bottle of watered down juice. He ended up eating 4 puffs and taking taste of juice, all without gagging or retching. Its amazing!
