Liam started to not feel good on Christmas Day.
The day after Christmas he started vommiting.
He only vommited a few times.
Nothing to worry about.
He developed a cough that increasingly got worse.
Yesterday he woke up with a fever on 101.5.
Normally we'd treat it at home.
If it didnt go away after 4mls of tylanol and 4mls of motrin and 1 hour then I would have taken him to Children's ER.
But because Liam has a mediport I have no choice but to take him in as soon at his temp reached 100.5.
I packed out bags and headed to Childrens praying that it wasnt an infection in his mediport.
An infection in the mediport is a blood infection and can be very serious and deadly if not cought in time.
Blood infections are hard to treat.
When I got there, ER waiting room was packed.
I had to wait 10 minutes in line to sign in. Luckily I didnt have to wait long to be called back to the nurse who did the initial check and asked why you were there.
After I had to return to the waiting room.
Luckily because of Liam's CDH, Chronic lung disease and mediport,
we didnt have to wait not even 5 minutes before they called him back into a room.
They called him back before anyone that was infront of us.
The doctor came in almost immediately along with the nurses and asked for the back story.
Then he ordered xrays,
blood cultures,
blood work,
RSV test,
and IV fluids.
I have to sat THANK YOU MEDIPORT!
It was the easiest we've ever gotten an IV in him as well as blood drawn.
The doctor came back with the results.
Liam was positive for RSV.
The xray showed his lungs were clear and looked great.
That was amazing news.
The doctor thought it was all in his upper airway,
He said he had been hoping it was RSV over a mediport infection and thats why he ordered the RSV swap in case that was the problem.
We were then sent home.
Such a blessing it is to be able to ride out this at home.
